This tour has it all: admission to the Tokyo Game Show (Japan’s largest Video Game trade show), Akihabara, the Ghibli Museum, Shibuya, and everywhere in between. You’ll shop, eat, explore, and experience all that Tokyo has to offer – plus a free day so you can explore even more! To finish the journey, we’ll whisk you into the mountains for three nights at Kinugawa Onsen (hot spring) where you can see the legendary temples, masoleums, tea houses, and waterfalls of Nikko. Of course, you’ll also be able to soak and relax in the hot springs themselves, take in expansive mountain views, sample traditional cuisine, and hang with friends both old and new at a special onsen party at the end of the journey.

Best of all, the tour includes the flight to Japan from Vancouver OR Toronto! Still getting a little sticker shock? Not to worry: we’ve also included TWO housing options. You can opt for a comfortable hostel in Tokyo that comes with a hotel in Kinugawa, or upgrade to a hotel in Tokyo that comes with a resort in Kinugawa! No matter which one you pick, all the posted prices are in Canadian Dollars* as well, so you can spend less time worrying about exchange rates and more about what to pack.

Day 3: The Forest meets the Future
Our journey begins with a visit to our favorite “neighbor” – Totoro! We’ll hit the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka to check out the history of Japan’s most iconic animation studio and see a special animated short you won’t see anywhere else! Then it’s off to the mecca of anime fandom, Akihabara! Shop for art books, figures, used video games, and more as we explore back alleys and towering department stores geared towards every kind of anime fan. Later, practice your “moe moe beam” with the maids at a maid cafe, or check out one of the area’s giant video arcades. That night, join us for an optional trip to Tokyo Tower to see a night view of the city.

Day 4: Super Gundams and Ships (I ship it)
We hope you like robots, since today has a good deal of them! We’ll sail down the Sumida River on a futuristic vessel designed by Leiji Matsumoto on our way to Odaiba, where we’ll visit a giant Gundam at Diver City Tokyo! After shopping and checking out the ‘bot, we’ll head back to central Tokyo to Ikebukuro. Here, you’ll be able to hang out in a local cat cafe or visit the mini-theme park for Shonen Jump characters, J-World. If you’re into a kind of shipping that doesn’t have anything to do with Purolator, you’ll be happy to know that the fangirl-centric Otome Road is here as well!

Day 5: From the Virtual to the Vintage
Get ready to see what’s new in the world of Video Games: we’re off to Tokyo Game Show! Peruse booths showcasing the latest and greatest from game production companies, try out a few new titles, or just take in the madness on the show floor. Following the show, we’ll cross Tokyo to Nakano to check out anime and games from an era gone by at Nakano Broadway! After a stop back at the hotel, you can choose to join us at one of Tokyo’s most amazing shows: the drag show and dance performance at the electric Roppongi Kingyo cabaret!
Optional: Roppongi Kingyo Drag Cabaret Show C$90

Day 6: Wavy Accents, Waves of the Bay
Let’s get ready to strut through Harajuku on their famous shopping Sunday! But first, we’ll be walking through nature to catch a glimpse at the famous Meiji Jingu Shrine. After tossing a coin into the shrine and making wishes, it’s off to tackle Harajuku and peruse their legendary offerings of kitschy fashions, engaging art displays, and cute cafes. Shibuya is the next stop, where you’ll be able to see sites featured in the game The World Ends With You and shop for last minute souvenirs of every kind and type. If you’re hungry after all this exploring, join us for an optional dinner cruise on a Yakatabune Long Boat, complete with a multi-course Tempura feast, bottomless drinks, and gorgeous views of Tokyo Bay.
Optional: Yakatabune Dinner Cruise C$140

Day 7: Free Day!
Today is a free day! Go back to an area where you wanted more time to explore, or check out somewhere new! Your guides will be on hand to help you make your way around.

Day 8: (Water)Fall into Nikko
We’ll be sending our large bags on to the airport, as today is the day we leave Tokyo behind for the beautiful city of Nikko! The adventure begins in an “elevated” state on the Akechidaira Plateau, where you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the Oku-Nikko area. You’ll also see the famous Kegon Waterfalls from above before we go down for a closer look. From here, you can choose to bask in the beautiful surroundings over a cup of tea, or follow the guides onto Lake Chuzenji for a quick cruise around the area. In the evening, we’ll check in at Kinugawa Onsen and partake in an amazing dinner before you get a crack at the hot springs!

Day 9: Discovering Nikko
The famous resting place of many Tokugawa Shogun, Nikko, is our stop today! First up: the massive Toshogu Shrine and Masoleum, famed for its colourful gates, views, and welcoming forest scenery. Rinnoji, the birthplace of Buddhism in the area, is our next stop before we leave the temples and shrines behind for a more relaxing stop: the Tamozawa Gyotei Villa. Wander the beautiful gardens here, admire the mountain rivers and hills, or poke around to get some impressive photos. Finally, it’s back to our hotels for good food and an optional room party with your guides!

Day 10: Kicking back in Kinugawa!
By popular demand, today is a day for you to kick back and relax! Wander the picturesque streets of Kinugawa Onsen, explore Nikko more, or just sit in the hot springs and let your cares melt away.
